I was on my way to work this morning, late as usual, when a guy about a block away from my house flagged me down and asked for a jump. I said I was late and didn't have time. I didn't add that I was leery of jumping a car on a very cold morning from a small car with a battery of uncertain age. In my del Sol it would not have been a problem; in the TT, I'm not so confident.
I failed the Mn hospitality test -- and, no, I don't carry jumper cables either.

It'll be okay.

*shrug* I pay for AAA because I don't feel entitled to impose on strangers.

On a cold morning, AAA takes hours to respond to start a car... I've got BP club and AmEx offers service now too. My usual is to leave the lights on.

Yeah, we ditched AAA because of their car-centric lobbying. We get roadside assistance through our car insurance for a few bucks a month. I didn't know about AmEx.

That's true, they do take forever on busy days. My car beeps loudly at me if I try to leave the lights on, so I haven't done so. My last car turned the lights off automatically, but I always did it myself because I didn't want to learn any bad habits in case the next car didn't have that feature (which it doesn't).

Too late to have the top down much, but the four-wheel drive is nice on ice & snow...

Many years ago (when I was living at Finagle's Freehold), my car wouldn't start on a bitterly cold morning, and Joel Halpern (the other car-owner in the house) was already gone to work. I flagged down a random neighbor and asked for a jump, and he said "No, I don't think so."

I'd been living in Minnesota long enough that I found that mildly shocking. I can't remember what happened after that; it was the being turned down part that was memorable.
