I'm switching at home from one computer to another. I tried to write an update, but the packing and going was sucking too many CPU cycles, so I killed the LJ client and ran off to work.

I spent Christmas Eve and Christmas at my aunt's in Golden Valley. My sister, Karen, left Christmas day for the drive back to Fargo. The neighbors from across the commons had Christmas dinner with me and my aunt. One of their father's and a friend were also there. I spent much of Christmas Eve in search of a game hen or two. Byerly's was out as was the Crystal Cub. By the time I got to Byerly's, I just tossed a few quail and a duck into the shopping basket. (I was looking at a duck breast, but it cost as much as the whole bird.) We had a whole flock for Christmas. It was a fowl dinner. A brace of quail, a covey of game hens, and a duck. Thong, who would not join us, ate a game hen and half a quail that I took back. We had too much, and I think the three game hens would have served the six of us. I also made wild rice with smokey bacon and miripoix. Riced Yukon Gold potatoes. Broad beans. I stuffed the celery with cream cheese, cream cheese and olive pate, and olive pate for a retro touch. We also had a couple of jello salads just to be midwestern. And a bitter salad with pomegranite just to not be midwestern. No lutefisk, although I did bring the NY Times article about it.

After the dinner, the neighbors brought an ice cream cake. (My aunt has a thing for ice cream.) I cleaned up the kitchen and boiled the duck carcass. I left it sitting on her patio so it would keep and I could scrape the fat off it. I'm thinking wild rice soup. I also bought some leeks for potato soup. (There's still some of the smokey bacon left.)

I'm dropping cards and presents off at Michael and Mary's tonight. Then home to houseclean and unpack the stuff on the new computer. I've just got three drives in the RAID 5. Five partitions of 45 gigs each. The other drive is a boot drive. (I could not get Windows XP to load the RAID drivers while trying to boot it from the CD.)
