I went into work for a couple of hours, and then ran off. I stopped at Park Nicollet to pick up my aunt's medical records and then continued on to Golden Valley.
My aunt had been calling nursing homes during the morning, and my sister and I drove up to visit Northridge in the wilds of New Hope. It's the biggest nursing home in the state with some 550 beds. It looked like a nursing home. It smelled like a nursing home. They were upset that we didn't have an appointment to tour the place, but the girl my aunt had spoken to gave us a very extensive tour. My aunt would like a private room. They have 14.

The rooms are very small. The only furniture they let them bring is a 13" TV and a cart/tray/orange crate to set it on. The bathing facilities looked a bit scary. The rooms seemed drab and crowded. We left there and drove to Jones-Harrison.

Tim, the guy I bought the house with, ustta work at Jones-Harrison. I've also been in it when it was a polling place sometime ago. I'd told somebody how to get there vaguely. Turn North at the SA on 7, no, 5, no 7, 5 & Lake Street. Wander around until you hit it or the Cedar Lake. It was pretty much the route we took.

The outside of the nursing home was quite impressive. Brick with vines. Cedar Lake below it. Nice furniture in the main reception area. A nice big counter with people who also yelled at us for not having an appointment. We waited and the woman my aunt had talked to came out and gave us a tour of the home. The rooms were big, and some stocked with lots of furniture. There was color. It was calm and it smelled clean.

They have a long waiting list. They first take people from their assisted living. Could they take my aunt? She'd talked to Colonial Acres, and if you give them massive amounts of money and move into their assisted living, they'll keep you for life. But they wouldn't let her have an aide. Jones-Harrison seemed to feel they could help her in assisted living, as long as she could pay for it. And then transfer into the nursing home when she was ready and when a room was open. We're going to call and talk to them again in the morning, and maybe take my aunt over to look at it. If they'll let her into the assisted living and she can afford it. They've even got a pool.
