I had an out of control drug problem when I was a teenager. I have plenty of compassion for people with substance abuse problems. The thing is, people who have such problems and genuinely seek to overcome them typically become more self aware. People like Rush and Foley never seem to exhibit any evidence of this process, but take full advantage of asking people not to kick them while they're "down".
