Wish I could've gone as well, especially seeing how cheap memberships are going. At least you were able to transfer your membership. It seems a lot of people haven't been able to find any takers.

Oh well, next year in Los Angeles I guess.

Unless the convention is within commuting distance of your house (or you have someone you can stay with), the price of the membership is negligible compared to the cost of traveling to the con and staying in the hotel.

True of course. I was just thinking that the low cost membership, coupled with a cheap flight I found a few weeks ago, made Interaction a lot more affordable than I thought it would be.
The real problem was taking the time off work in any case.

Fair enough. But unless you were willing to stay in a hostel (and there were some listed, but I have no idea whether they still had space available), hotels were Not Cheap (we paid 85 pounds a night, which did not include breakfast). And food cost the same number of units as you would expect to pay here, but the units, being pounds, were worth 2.3 times the Canadian $.

I'm really, really, really glad I went, but yow.

I'm really glad to hear it and I look forward to reading about your trip.

In the past when I've been to Britain and Europe I normally do stay in hostels. I prefer them to a hotel actually. The comfort level may not be the same but it's the best way I've found to meet other people when travelling, which is especially welcome when travelling alone. I do however seem to recall reading somewhere that the hostels in Glasgow were all booked up over Worldcon long ago.

Well, I've hit the age where I prefer not to share a bathroom with strangers.

I did stay in a hostel last time I was in Europe, and meeting other people was a definite plus. But that's less of an issue at Worldcons.
