I'm sorry to be distracted and more boring than usual at the moment. Work has been hectic again. Life has been hectic. The good side is that I have an appointment with the tax guy. The bad side is that I think I'll owe.

To keep with the first grade theme and high drama, I'm finding ban_set and the admin console useful.

In two weeks, it's off to Asia, and the high drama here can continue unabated in my absence. A couple of things that I enjoyed have become toxic and tarnished to me. A few people are no longer welcome in my house. A few more are inching up the drama scale. It's not a very daming edict -- I have very low standards, and they're quite difficult to break, but have a few people that have succeded. (I also don't have friends over much, but that's not exactly news, is it?) It's all good in an uncomfortable way, but change is always uncomfortable and exciting at the same time.

Smoke is out of bars in Minneapolis by the time I come home from Asia, it's Spring. There's a lot to say for that. It's a good time for endings and beginnings.

Have a great trip. Will you be back for Minicon?

I'm sure I will, but I'm sorry I won't be seeing you. I guess you'll just have to come to Confusion next year.

We're trying to beat some of the heat. I didn't know how figurative that could be...

Will your birthday be while I'm in India (March 14 to April 6-or-so)? I'd hate to miss it.

Sadly, yes.

But! You can bring me a present! I want some onionskin typing paper, and it's just not available on the net, in office supply stores, or at specialty paper stores, nor does the manager at Paper Depot know where to find it. I bet they still have it in the Third World, though. (I'll be looking for it in Ecuador in June, too.)

I'd also love to have any ephemera that you pick up and are willing to tote home. Ticket stubs, brochures, bits of paper, handbills, anything like that. Graphical is good, foreign language is good.

Drat.

I'll give a look-round for onionskin typing paper. I should have a look at a sample so I'll recognize it if I should stumble across it in a shop. Also, email me your full street address so I can ship any that I find back to you. (Assuming it's less than truckloads.)

And if I have any interesting ephemera, I'll stuff it in the last of the little kit-bags you gave me and cart it home for you!

I don't have any samples. You'll have to punt. The ephemera need not be interesting to you, I'll find it interesing regardless. Do you want to borrow our collapsible suitcase? It's softsided, and best for filling with dirty clothes while your more precious treasures go in your sturdier bag.

I'll email you the address, though.

K. [oh, and Larry's probably right about carbon paper. Eek]

Very well. I'll refrain from buying truckloads until I know for sure I've got the right stuff. (If I should find any.)

My current plan is to pack one suitcase and buy a second one there. My primary bag isn't particularly sturdy; it's one of those travel packs that you can unzip and pull out back-pack straps. I figure I'll ship plenty of stuff back and take mostly soft and/or non-breakable things back on the plane.

That's a good idea. You'll find suitcases there close to free.

Onionskin gone?

Is there no end to this madness? Next you'll tell me carbon-paper is gone as well! ;-)

What does ban_set do?

It allows

From: [identity profile] lsanderson.livejournal.com
You to block comments by specified users. It's not quite the same as banning books in Boston, but I've had it with a few people.

You post mostly friends-only so it's not very useful, and although I'm tending back a bit that way, posting public LJ enteries allows me to update the front page of my website from anywhere I can get to livejournal -- that way, the one or two people who log in there in a year don't always see the same material...

I don't know about you but I don't recall much drama in first grade, it's later grade school where kids get really mean and manipulative and junior high where it really resembles these Soap Opera Olympics.

Well, back in the stone age, neither junior high nor kindergarden wuz available where I went to school, so it seemed like a reasonable alternative.
