Worse than going to the porch and not finding the paper. OK, it's kind of life in a teacup, but it's my life and my teacup.

I keep putting the local paper guy's phone number in my address book, then I can never remember what I filed it under. Everytime they do this, they bring a big sheet of paper that says "If there's any problems, call this number." Hah! This morning I made it into the Time's really, really bad customer service online. It always amazes me the number of sites that are built like Fort Knox that really could just be Ft. Apache, or that could let you decide if you really minded if somebody wanted to pay for your subscription.

I made a brief appearance at Marscon yesterday. Opening Ceremonies did not hold my attention. I tried to post from the Treo duringing the ceremonies, but a failed connection saved everybody from my spur of the moment statement. After a few hands of solitaire on the Treo, I wandered out to the hall and talked to Erin for a few minutes. I'd cruised through the dealer's rooms briefly before, but did not see anything with the requisite amount of glitter. The hotel is a maze of warrens and courtyards and, sad to say, it lacks parking for an SF convention a la burb.

After the ceremonies, I wandered over to Anodyne, where laurafishLaura Jean and davidschrothDavid were just buying coffee and donuts.

We watched a couple of performances, including one by a cute black guy who brought his son along to hold a sign I didn't read... and then wandered across the street to eat at the place that ustta be NE Thyme. It was a busy restaurant, but we were slightly underwhelmed by the food. Slightly pretentious for the execution and delivery. David had braised pork which he ordered for the collard greens. Laura Jean had lamb, which was tough, and I had pork loin, which was quite good. The purple potatoe thingie that went with the pork I had wasn't very hot -- taste or temperature. It wasn't bad tasting, but it could have used some cream or butter and a few heads of garlic.. My pork was good, and my glass of wine was as well. (Although, to drive the opening ceremonies out of my mind, I really had my eye on a bottle.)

The potatoes were really good, though. The collard greens were not vinegary enough, but that may be me misremembering my misspent youth in North Charleston, SC.

Sorry about the newspaper. It always drives me around the bend when mine does not show up when and where it should.

I know what you mean about that hotel.
Lacking space for a good con suite, and feeling (from the outside at least) like state penitentiary.
I felt it was a poor choice.
