Today has been the day of migrating paper kiosks, flying leaves, random snowflakes driven from Colorado, and a rather brisk wind with falling temperatures.

I've been to Menards twice today. And to the 38th Street Hardware once. The upstairs upstairs sink's drain would not seal, and so Thong hacked away the pine and got it out after banging repeatedly on the pipe wrench with a hammer. On my first trip to Menards, I purchased one male and one female 1.5 inch to 1.25 inch adapter -- the kind of thing the drain goes into. The one that was there, had ghod only knows what sized threads that nothing standard would fit. As usual, the internal sewer pipe was 1.25, male, and not willing to take a 1.5 male or female. Back to the car and off down Lyndale, when I hauled a right at 25th Street, and vectored back to 38th street and Nicollet. Low and behold, the hardware store had a whole assortment of 1.25 and 1.5 in various combinations and genders. Not cheap, but they were all there. I ended up switching the gender and buying a nipple to extend the male pipe out further from the wall. We got that in, except for connecting the faucet, and took out the toilet and put the old one from the second floor in. (The one up there, while compact, had a cracked top on the tank, and well, we had an extra toilet ever since we put the Toto in on the second floor.) Then I ran back to Menards to return the 1.5 X 1.25 male/female adapters and to pick up some short 3/8 x 3/8 male/female connectors. Hah! brought back four just in case, but the first ones worked. Upstairs upstairs bathroom will be done as soon as we put the shower back in. Thong took the pliers after it while I was gone and cranked it out. The nipples I bought a long time ago don't fit. sigh. My usual hardware shopping experience.

Then I put up two towel racks in the bathroom on the second floor. I've been hauling tools down from the third floor, although there's still a bunch to come down. The basement tool room is returning to chaos. I've got to vacuum the bathroom before Thong throws a fit, but I did scrape down the windows from the third floor bedroom and stick them in. (Not properly with the rope and weights, but crammed in and held with the wood snapped into place.)

While at Menards the second time, still forgetting to buy a flashlight, I bought a strap wrench to twist out the shower pipe that Thong would be removing with the pliers before I got back... took it to the one on the second floor, but we've not been able to get it out. Still have the shower ring, new shower head, and the shower head on the third floor. Then some trim. Thong cut and stuck a piece of time in upstairs just before we set the toilet in, but the ceiling in the second floor bathroom still needs trim.

Meanwhile, I keep thinking there's some kinda holiday coming up and shopping I should be doing...

I have been expecting a call to go help move heavy things over at Laura & Davids.
