DSL & Qworst
Oct. 26th, 2004 06:09 pmDSL – it’s been out. Thong called me in Denver and complained. It rained here on Saturday, and the phone has been shorting out when it’s wet outside. I thought it might have been the problem, although the DSL usually works even when there’s no dialtone.
After Thong picked me up at the airport, I started the process of calling. Multiple voice mail messages later, I talked to the Qworst techie, who told me, shock, that it was the ISP who was not acknowledging the user name and password. Hmm, I don’t have a user name and password because it’s BRIDGED. Nonetheless, I waited until 8:00 and talked to the ISP. “It’s probably the router.”
Back to Qworst. “Well, how did you configure it if you don’t have a user name and password?” “Quite simply.” I replied. “Well, have them check the slot and something, please hold.” An amazing amount of time later, he gave me the two settings. Then I called the ISP, to verify. Then back to voice mail madness at Qworst. That time I got disconnected while on hold.
This morning, after switching one leg of the phone line from one line to another and getting rid of the short, I went back to the voice mail madness, told the Qworst techie, who I reached quite quickly, that the ISP suggested a new modem/router. Oddly enough, he read off my address and told me a new one would be there tomorrow. He also gave me a long number to put in the box and send back the old one.
