What's is really disgusting is not only do they oppose hate-crime legislation, but they are promoting the idea of thought-crime, aka, you can't come to a Bush rally in a T-shirt that promotes civil liberties, or anything else Bush is opposed to. Pretty soon, they'll be telling us all what to think.
I know it's superfluous, but, vote for Kerry Nov 2.
I'm pretty sure I'm against hate-crime legislation. I just don't think it's worse to kill someone because they're, say...Polish...than it is to kill someone because they have more money than you, they're cheating on you, they don't like your voice, etc.
A bit of the point. They usually just accelerate the punishment and jack up the penalties for doing little things like setting crosses on fire in peoples yards, etc. They don't really cover murder.
The HCL items I've read have increased penalties for murder, assault, etc. if the crime was committed because the perpitrator had some sort of prejudice against the victim.
