Thanks very much for this. This tradition is one of the things that binds our community together. Some of the names I knew, and some are surprises.
It is touching, and also useful to have the list. I unfortunately just mailed PRs days ago a few people on the list, but will at least not repeat the mistake.
I don't suppose they made the list available in a searchable format as well as this video?
I'm sure that somebody has it, but I have no idea who or how to obtain it. Contact the convention? I ustta have the idea that Steven Silver maintained a list. Geri Sullivan might know.
It's been a hard year. I had forgotten how hard. I liked the music and the visuals, as well. I hadn't actually realized what a sad song that is, because I pretty much only hear the first couple of lines, often in a comedic setting. I am glad we do this, even though it is sad every year. I also think that moving it to opening ceremonies was potentially a good thing, instead of having it that the Hugo Ceremony.
Moving it out of the Hugos, cut that event by some amount of time, which is probably a good thing. It did not feel out of place at the opening. I also commented elsewhere that we never remember it's a sad song and not a glad to be back home at the loch song.
