Friday and last night, Sasha Cooke sang Gustav Mahler's Songs of a Wayfarer; Dima Slobodeniouk conducted the Minnesota Orchestra. It was a spectacular performance, and I'm not just referring to her gown, which was bright silver and sparkled well beyond the second row where I sit. They also performed Ulysses Kay’s Suite from The Quiet One and Johannes Brahms’ Symphony No. 4.

That sounds very fine. I reviewed Slobodeniouk when he conducted San Francisco just before the pandemic, and was impressed with his vigorous and emphatic work. And Cooke was the memorable soloist in Jake Heggie's songs of the Violins of Hope, which I also reviewed.
I've heard the Mahler and Brahms many times; I'm only passingly familiar with Ulysses Kay, but I've enjoyed his music.
