I've been unable to find a good definition of wingnut. My guess is that the sense I'm seeing it used in is being driven by the blogs that I'm reading.

Yes, it is. Somewhere I have a cartoon of a Wingnut visiting me in my Minicon hotel room where I am holed up with two lively toddlers. (This is, of course, a very old cartoon.)
