I was very impressed with Dr. Henry Jenkins (http://web.mit.edu/21fms/www/faculty/henry3/) prologue at the Walker Saturday night to a program of Star Wars parodies. He'd make a great con guest, ifn he does such.
Now I realize who you are talking about -- I've heard of him -- I've seen lots of references to Textual Poachers and Science Fiction Audiences over the years on various mailing lists and the like.
You're right. He would be an interesting guest if he does such things.
Definitely. I'm going to pass on the suggestion on to the board.
I also e-mailed with a friend of mine who went to and worked at MIT, and she had positive things to say about him as well. [She also pointed to this site, and it looks like he's had some interesting past work on this as well.]
Yep, very literate, intellectual, and at ease in front of the huge crowd of fans at the Walker. His lectures must be incredible. He was relating Star Wars parodies, Napster, the court's rulings on IP vs Corporate Outlook on IP (Intellectual Property) to Alice in Wonderland (which had a HUGE number of knockoffs that I was not aware of). It was just like sitting in front of a wind tunnel. Heck, he even mentioned BUFFY! I mean, what more could you want from an accademic?
