Yesterday, I helped mizzlaurajeanmizzlaurajean and davidschrothdavidschroth prepare Thanksgiving Dinner by occasionally jabbing a turkey with a meat thermometer and clucking knowingly whilst helping consume the two bottles of prosecco I brought over. We musta done something right, because the turkey looked great. We pulled it out of the oven around five, let it set for an abbreviated rest, and then I hacked most of it off the carcass, leaving bits of the two thighs still attached, abandoned them, but not until the bird was deboned and the gravy made, to run home and throw my dish for Thanksgiving #2 in the oven at high heat with the wind on to roast a mountain of sweet taters.

I fried, well, OK, burned a red onion on top of the stove, threw in a can of Thai curry paste and a can of coconut cream, flipped the sweet taters once, back in the oven for 15 or so minutes, dumped them into my slow cooker, ran everything out to the car, and off to Uptown. Clicking over the turkey apparently works -- my second dinner had had the stove regulator replaced, and regulating appears to have been slow for turkey number two. But there was a ton of food, and with actors around the table, an absence of silence, but a lot of good raconteur. Of course, there were too many sweet taters, including mine. (And I don't think this was the food crowd, if there is one, for burnt red onion Massaman curry sauce and roasted sweet taters.) I thought they were pretty darned good, and I ground some up and fried them this morning beside a couple of eggs using the curry sauce to 'bind' them.) The theme of the second dinner was Brussels sprouts (two great disses of 'em) and sweet taters -- including mine, I think at least three. And one large bowl of white mashed taters. After dinner, we ate salad, and then pie. I had pumpkin, but there was apple and pecan.

My melange of taters wuz:

Purple sweet potatoes -- my favorite
White sweet potatoes
Red sweet potatoes
Plain old orange sweet potatoes
Several things of color labeled as yams.

The purple sweet potatoes, which are mostly white with streaks of purple veins, turned quite dark in the hot oven.

Thank you! Wish you could've stayed but I guess its good to be popular.

I especially appreciate the help carving what with a cracked finger bone.

We should talk about food for X-mas day assuming you want to come hang out. I vote for things that are easy and delicious.
