Cichlid, probably African, they're also kind of shy, which is unusual for mean fish. There's three big ones in the big tank and a trio upstairs. The Jack Dempsy even gets out of their way...
When the trio was small, they used to cower in the top regions of the small 75 gallon tank with frequent spats causing the three of them to change corners one or two at a time. They often tilted at quite an angle as they huddled hoping the other fish would not find them. Now they just cower in the rocks and wood unless they think I'm going to feed 'em. It's funny if anybody strange goes into the basement where the big tank is, they seem to vanish quite quickly.
Of the ones I snapped, this is about the clearest. It would have helped if I'd cleaned the glass, but the flash just lights up the glass and obscures the fish. The slow shutter catches the fish, but blurs the movement. The fish is only in front because it wants me to feed them, otherwise they hide out most of the time, especially I'm flashing lights at 'em.
