Arragh! I hate it when I lose track of such things, but .... are you the one who posted a link to a Mpls sushi-ya that uses chili-peppers? Hey, I quickly learned to like sushi when I was stationed in Japan for 8 months c. 1951, but it _never_ contained chili peppers, or any spice but wasabi, which (for me) goes well with most raw seafood. I'm not sure if I'm allergic to chili-peppers or just don't like them, but I'm certainly not going to eat at a restaurant that includes them in sushi. Sadly, I've recently discovered that it's necessary to specify "No chili-peppers or red hot-sauce, please".

And yes, I've (twice) asked for my bill, paid, and walked out with an offending dish uneaten. I suppose this qualifies as "grumpy in my old age".

I tend to like hot peppers, but I don't remember any similar sushi story.

No problem, and no guilt -- most likely, I just clicked through several sites either from your reference or from someone else's. I was primarily Venting about the trend (especially here in Southern California) towards this departure from Traditional Japanese style. Although, for all I know, it may now have caught-on in Japan as well. Mind you, I'm so old-fashioned as to generally disapprove of maki-mono (rolls), even if they have Clever Names.
