I'm glad that Wheaton upgraded successfully. I won't want to be thought anti-Yosemitic(*), but I got a new Mac with the old OSX a few weeks ago, at ... less of a discount than I'd like, but still a discount, and don't intend to upgrade it soon, if at all. And if I live long enough to need/want another new computer, it probably won't be a Mac. I can't use the new one OnLine until I make arrangements with Verizon (it won't work on a plebeian, old-fashioned phone line (& doesn't read/burn CDs, either). *sigh*

(*) I stole that from the late Harry Warner, Jr., but a lot of people of my generation came across "Yosemite" in print before hearing it pronounced, and figured that it was analogous to "semite/semitic". On a tangent, I was pronouncing the name of an Oregon river wrong for years before people at an AAPA Convention up there said "It's Willamett, damnit".

Are about $25 on a good day if you want one. I don't know what modems run these days, as they're not much used, but I suspect someone will sell you one. Not many providers for them though...

Thanks -- I hadn't priced DVD/CD readers/burners yet, but probably would have soon. Still... at the price they charge, I think that ought to be a built-in. I"m not sure, but I don't think it's a matter of modems -- the newer Macs seem (as I understand it) to _require_ wi-fi, bluetooth, router or hub, or whatever -- they seem not to deign to cope with copper-wire land-lines. Mind you, 27-inch screen!

Hey, and they make a Big Deal out of the fact that it's only 1/4-inch thick at the edge!
