I almost envy your cold weather (even though I'm not much of a fan of cold). Here in SoCal, the temperature seems to be going into the 85-90 range again (that's been about the average for the past four months) and I'm having mixed feelings about heading for Saint Nectarios' Church this afternoon. I'll do it of course -- Hey, Greek Food! (and pretty good, even though the Church Basement Ladies (this being California, the Church has no basement, but -- as with the Islamic Madrasas not far away -- "Church Basement Ladies" is a Universal term) no longer bring it from home, as they did in The Good Old Days), and the new Church building is an absolute gem -- square/stubby cross around a dome -- albeit unifinished (there are still some square yards of the interior not yet covered with Iconic murals, and in Orthodox Church buildings that seems to count as "unfinished"). I kinda doubt that I'll stay for (at most) more than the beginning of the dancing that's the feature of the Saturday evening of the festival -- being deaf pretty much puts the kibosh on that -- and I'm certainly no longer going to join in on the (few) Greek dances I (used to) know, not to mention the problems of doing them with a cane. Now I'm headed for a nap before aiming for the spanakopita, dolmathes, &cet. I'll probably eat only the spanakopita there, and bring other things home to consume during the next few days, because my appetite is not nearly what it once was.
