Dec. 26th, 2003 10:29 pmStill hacking. Pretending I'm cleaning for the NYD. I've got to shovel out the office somehow. I've parked the vacuum downstairs in the hopes that I'll actually plug it in and run it over the floors. I'd consider investing in a Roomba, but the damned things won't do tasseled carpets, and the only two carpets in the place have tassels on the edges.
I did fix the connectivity problem in Thong's computer. I changed it from one case into an Antec case with temperature controlled fans. After I put it back together, the network card would not connect either to the internet or to the network. Information on Microsoft suggested deleting a couple of registry entries and renewing the IP components of XP. I did this several times with no great luck. I finally saved the reg entries from this computer to a floppy and added them to the register on the other computer. That seemed to fix the problem, or at least for a while. Then, looking at my CDs, I noticed that I own two copies of Norton anti-virus, and so I went in and yanked all of McAfee off the computer. The problems seem to have vanished. Grr.
