Nov. 11th, 2003 08:48 amThe ISP is down. It went down sometime in the evening while I was watching SG-1. I called Qwest DSL, waded through their voicemail system, talked to meat, and got his confirmation that it appeared to not be on their end. I'd suspected as much from the lights on the Cisco 675 and my inability to renew the IP address. The neighbor whacked the phone lines a bit when he cut down the tree that was falling. (That reminds me, did I ever pull in the chainsaw from the porch? I think he left it out there when I was in a suit. They're oily, and so I left it sitting behind the rail.
Thong wants to go back to Vietnam for December. Before their New Year when fares increase.
Here I am when I cannot sleep and there is no internet to cruise the web. I've lots of other things I should be doing, but am busy avoiding. Or, I should go back to bed.
I've got bids coming in for sanding the floor on the third floor of the house. I'd like to redo the kitchen area up there and turn the whole floor into a bedroom. I've been looking at installing a gas heater (iron stove, fireplace look) that would have to vent up through the attic and out the roof. The floor has electric heat. The old heater was yanked when they installed the new furnace. The old furnace, water heater, and the stove on the third floor all shared the same flue. Now, there's only the water heater in the flue. We put the old heater out on the curve for the city to cart off, but it vanished long before, asbestos and all. It was big, heavy, and with a huge fan that I'd replaced once when the insulation on the previous fan's wires flaked and disintegrated. It roared and produced tons of heat. It may well be doing so in some garage.
I need a cabinet maker to take apart the kitchen, save what can be saved, and turn it into some kind of storage, or add it to the bathroom. A hot tub would be fun if the floor would hold it. I have to stop and pick up the storm window for the center bay window here in the office. I am now kicking myself that I did not replace them with high-efficiency windows. The old double-hung windows leak too much cold, and they're too much of the office. I wish they'd ran the bay up to the third floor. Oh well.
Internet reappeared before I got the call in to the ISP.
