Fast as two people can say “I do,” Mayor R. T. Rybak of Minneapolis opened the doors of City Hall to gay couples on Aug. 1, just as the state’s new same-sex marriage law took effect. He married 46 couples that first day, couples who had been together a collective 734 years by their accounts. But that wasn’t bliss enough for the mayor, who began roaming the Midwest, inviting gay and lesbian couples in areas without legal same-sex marriage to visit his city and take the plunge. Moar
