The NY Times website is still under attack, and Google ain't finding it.

Interesting. nytimes.com and www.nytimes.com don't even resolve right now. Is that a defensive measure? Surely the attackers know their IP addresses?

Ah: "The disruption was the result of an external attack on our domain name registrar" So no, not a defensive measure. Apparently the attack is not against the actual servers at nytimes at all, although I'd only give press-release-type one-sentence almost-non-technical explanations of things like this a 75% chance of giving the correct impression.

For what it's worth, I did a little looking and while nytimes.com does not resolve from UChicago, it does resolve for me at home (via Megapath's nameserver), does not resolve from another ISP in Chicago where I have an account, and does resolve from the data center in France I use. So spotty is the word.

The Times responded on Twitter about the outage giving, of course, a link back to the nytimes.com website. It bounced, of course. Must eat brainz...

And the site seems to work fine if I add the IP address found elsewhere to my /etc/hosts
