Anybody know an LPN that's willing to work 9pm to 9am?

Got back from spending the morning with my aunt in HCMC's ICU. What happens when your lungs fail? Hey, just ask an asthmatic, I've been in training all of my life. It's like sitting through Bergman's Cries and Whispers, and we're even a Swedish family.

They were moving my aunt out of the ICU and down onto the floor. She's incredibly anxious because she can't really cough or clear obstructions from her throat. The ALS has shutdown most of the nerves that control her lungs, and unlike mine, she can't spray albuterol and steroids down them to make the lungs work again.

Meanwhile, at home, I'm trying to get ready for the Minicon work party tomorrow. And, Thong's upstairs aquarium's heater stuck and he caught it only after at least one of the fish had died. We had a brief exchange because he was unwilling to unplug the heater (because he'd turned it down already). The tanks probably close to 100 degrees fondly fahrenheit. As he was about to dump a pail of cold water in without removing the chlorine and other chemicals, I decided I'd better hit Bill's Imported Foods before it closed. He so didn't approve of me putting a bowl of ice cubes in the filter. And, since he goofed up the filters downstairs and lost a few fish, he wasn't willing to bring up the air pump which is the biggest problem with extremely warm water.

So, I'm hiding out at work to work on some training that has to be in the UK by Monday night, and going shopping at Cub on the way home.

Back to the hospital tomorrow morning, where I'm hoping my aunt is no longer in ICU, then home to put out supplies for the work party. It's PR-1, and in spite of making it small, we've been scrambling to fix persistent errors and my incredible ability to sometimes miss the obvious.

Just for fun, I decided to format the hard drive and reinstall Windows too. (I guess I really shouldn't have updated the video drivers after they crashed.) The Office 2003 beta upgrade won't download, and the base Office 2003 beta won't open the updated one's letter file. This after trying to install the Office beta five different ways with a dual boot system (they all failed).

And the film editing I want to do? Still looking for that firewire camera and time. Speaking of time, I guess it's time to get cracking on the training...

Speaking of Minicon, are you going to send MileHiCon an ad to put in our program book? Contact linda soon, I'll send her email again in case you need it.

I'm so sorry for your aunt. Slow respiratory failure is a torture.

My mother had emphysema, and lived with us, except for her final three months, the last five+ years of her life. I understand about your aunt, and wish her, and you, the best in dealing with this.
