As so frequently happens, I think Krugman is correct. But he only barely alludes to another aspect -- with modern communications, many education-based jobs can be (and are, already) outsourced to countries (notably India and China) where the number of well-educated people has recently increased, and where there are a _lot_ of such individuals who will do the work for much less money than American ones would expect and demand. From a Global point of view, that's good -- it raises the human living-standard -- I guess, but from a purely local one... it looks as though we'll need to do some readjusting.
