I use my Discover card way too much, and pay it online. The new storm windows downpayment went on one of 'em, and yesterday was the pay date. Early in the morning, I transferred funds from one account to another account to cover the downpayment, and then logged in to Discover to discover that their computers had checked out. I called only to find that, yes, their computers had check out, but it was only supposed to last for a couple of hours. Where have I heard that one before? I checked off and on all day at work, and only got on a few minutes after four. Of course, their cutoff time, is four... So, I left them an email and called 'em up and whined...
There was a nice piece I caught on NPR yesterday on the way to work from the brother of Ronald Ervin McNair, who talked about a librarian calling the police when the two of them were at a library trying to check out books. (I'm going to make a wild guess that this was somewhere in the South.) The only thing odd about the story was that when the police got to the library and the librarian explained the issue, the police said to let the kid check out the books. No follow up to hear what the librarian thought when he got turned into fireworks in the morning sky.
