IF you happened to be up around dawn on Tuesday, you could witness the death rattle of our adventure in Iraq live on CNN. Zalmay Khalilzad, the American ambassador, and Gen. George W. Casey Jr., the American commander, were making new promises from the bunker of the Green Zone, inspiring about as much confidence as Jackie Gleason and Art Carney hatching a get-rich-quick scheme to sell a kitchen gadget on “The Honeymooners.”

“Success in Iraq is possible and can be achieved on a realistic timetable,” said Mr. Khalilzad. Iraq can be “in a very good place in 12 months,” said General Casey. Even a child could see how much was wrong with this picture. More

I'd be willing to do brunch if anybody's still interested. Waffles, OJ, bacon, BM, SD, etc.

The brunch ran from around 1:30 to 5:30. I chopped up the last of the poached pears and put them on to warm. Made an old waffle recipe from Better Homes & Gardens. Plugged in my grandmother's waffle iron, which didn't heat...

Had mizzlaurajeanmizzlaurajean and davidschrothdavidschroth bring their waffle iron and milk over. They also brought cream and bacon. I think I remembered to send the cream home with them, but forgot the bacon. (I found the red light shield for the iron...)

I cooked bacon, and we made waffles. Laura Jean & I had bloody marys. I also toasted off a bunch of pecans, but I didn't whip up the cream. All in all, it was a great afternoon. gerisullivangerisullivan went off to stay at fredcritterfredcritter.
