As a result of this sympathy and these sentiments, people are usually pretty decent to one another when they relate person to person.

If this was the case (which I WISH it were) health care would have been universal ages ago.
But BOTH parties practice a sort of political Darwinism (the Republicans worse then the Democrats I'll grant you).

The next line is The odd thing is that when people relate group to group, none of this applies. I think that explains it. Politicians aren't people, they're groups. (I know that the last two words are unnecessary.)
