Why is not checking luggage a red flag? I almost never check luggage, no matter which Third World country I'm flying from or to.

Wait - Drum says that one's "apparently true." (I agree that it's bogus as a "red flag," given the number of people who seem to want to haul *everything* on board with them).

I think the "apparently true" refers to that he (apparently) did not check luggage -- unlike the one-way ticket claim which appears to be bogus. The fact that it's a red flag is bogus because lottsa travelers travel that way, especially with the fees airlines are adding for checking luggage.

My personal feeling is they intentionally ignored the flags to use him as an excuse to spook the herd, and make it easier to implement more useless security protocols.
Keep in mind, we HAD all the information needed to keep him off the plane.
Right?
So the existing system worked.

I think you overestimate their abilities. Much of what is considered warnings and flags don't hold up.
