Dec. 9th, 2002 08:08 amSpent most of the day at my aunt's. I read the NY Times there, and the Stribune. I've not stopped for goodies the last couple of weeks on my way out there. French Meadow is usually crowded early, but has good muffins, scones, tarts, and coffee. The Wedge has some great pasties: danish, pistacio & chocolate thingies. Once I get there, my aunt is usually sitting in her chair watching TV. I replace the water glasses and bring her some orange juice or cranberry juice. If I've got goodies, I put them on a plate and we eat them. Otherwise, I start coffee, bacon or sausages, fry up a pair of eggs, toast some toast, and serve her breakfast. Afterwards, I clean up and load or unload the dishwasher. She's been working on her Christmas cards, and I transcribed a letter she wrote on Saturday and printed out 75 copies.
On Sunday, we just read the papers and then she started working on her cards. I finished most of November's Analog. I reheated some pea soup, sausage, and other things for lunch. A friend came, washed her hair and cut it. The retired nurse that's going to start coming for half the day stopped by to pick up a key and talk about hours. Her across-the-commons neighbors and a friend of theirs was doing a birthday dinner, so I left when they started arriving.
Her left foot, with the most glutamate nerve damage is mottled and swelling. The right is swollen, and the toes have become unresponsive. They always feel cold. The back surgery makes her uncomfortable, and is a reminder of when there was still hope and silver bullets left in the world.
She's got the POAs finished, so I'll need to run around with them and close up some accounts of hers. She has a clinic appointment at 8:00 a.m. on January 2nd.
I need to take some digital pictures of some old advertising posters she has (some framed) of the mills that became General Mills to try and sell on eBay. Time to start packing things up or sorting into piles: keep, sell, gift, trash. Three levels and thirty years.
