... for now.

Really, the fundamental flaw here is that CA constitution is too easy to change. I am sure that this will be addressed, the only question in my mind is if it will be made more difficult to change before or after they roll back the discrimination.

One friend of mine mentioned "Dred Scott" right off the bat.
Saying that this will pass, and will just go down in history as being a "How Stupid Were They!" situation.
The difficulty is (as you said) how long it will take.
Are Californians reasonable enough to admit they fucked up?

I think it'll correct, and pretty quickly, if they CA is smart enough to think "let's undo Prop 8 this year, and then fix the constitutional amendment process NEXT year".

I am less than optimistic about CA's ability to look forward and see what a mess they'll be in if they tighten the rules before fixing the mess.

At least they didn't negate the marriage that have already taken place.

No, you're going too far back. It's Bravely Backward to 1950! America's Golden Age of Eternal Family Values!

"I like family values. . . as long as the ruskies can't have them."

(Still wishing that we had paraphrase and falsaphrase marks instead of using quote marks for all.)

California: less liberal than Maine.

I hate to say I told you so, but those of us campaigning for the ERA in the 70s tried to warn folks about the lengths the Mormans would go to in an attempt to keep their vision of where a woman's place should be.
