So much for a data access port at a hotel. It's not high speed, it's not even going to work with the modem at slow speed. I stuck the phone cable into the modem and it's working. After I picked an ISP. Of course.

David, Laura, and I arrived in San Francisco yesterday around 4:00 P.M. After significant debate, which included the amount of junk we flew in with, we took a taxi to the hotel. Last night, we went out and ate in Chinatown. It was good. This morning, we went back and had dim sum. It too was good. Then we wandered around Fisherman's Wharf, Ghiardelli Square, SFMOMA. We wandered into Japantown for dinner. Grabbed some sushi there, and taxied to the hotel. Tired.

Laura and David booked a boat to Alcatraz tomorrow. I'm planning on wandering around Castro. Rumor has it that Drewan is heading back into the city.

High-speed data access at hotels costs something lke $16 per day. It is almost never worth it.

Worth it is a relative term. I don't have enough space on the laptop for pictures, so I have to upload them. The ancient laptop I got from work is proving very cranky. The USB port is not reliable. So far, I've used a pen and a pill bottle to put enough preasure on the connection to download from the compact flash card to the computer. It's either upload the pictures, delete yet more from the computer, or buy another compact flash card for the camera. We scouted out an internet cafe that allows you to plug in a laptop, but most want you to use their computers.
