The whole plane should thin out, as people with short trips decide that it's easier/better/cheaper to just fly home.

They should give you all upgrades.

When do you land in Hong Kong? Will I see you at the airport?

The magic phrase is "trip in vain". (Last time that happened to me, I got my money back and still got mileage for the flights I took.)

I'm planning on arriving at the Hong Kong airport at about 5:00 PM. If all goes well, I'll have my passport and visa at 5:30 and then get on the 7:00 plane to Shanghai. If all goes regular, I'll have my passport and visa at 6:30 and get on the 9:00 plane.

Maybe we'll meet at the Hong Kong airport departures area. I'll look for a flight to Ho Chi Minh City.
