Dan flew back to the US on United this summer and it was crap. I flew on Asiana and it was wonderful. I've decided that we're never traveling United internationally unless it saves us about $1000. for the extra 200 bucks Asiana was a direct flight with amenities. United had a layover in Japan and apparently it was a horrible flight.
