I would like to invite you to our second Christmas Fair this Saturday, November 15, 2008 from 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
The julmarknad (Christmas Fair) is an annual event at the American Swedish Institute, just as in many places in Sweden. At 10:00 a.m. the fanfare of the näverlur (birch bark horn) signals the opening of ASI's fair to the eager crowd waiting to be welcomed into the mansion.
I hope to see you here!
God Jul,
Bruce Karstadt, President/CEO
Join us on Saturday for our Christmas Fair!
Bob Gustafson sends up the call on the näverlur for the second Christmas Fair. The tomte (elf) might even turn up to hear him play! The fair includes music, food, Christmas decorations, and shopping. Kids of all ages can make a special Christmas card craft from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The ASI Christmas Shop offers a variety of holiday items on two floors. The first floor rooms are full of ornaments, glass, textiles, books, CDs, videos, DVDs, and plenty of tomtar. The Swedish Food Shop on the lower level offers a variety of Swedish foods, holiday treats and nuts, cards, gift wrap, and calendars. The lower level shop will also have the customary forms to place large orders for nuts.
Besides the Christmas Shop, the auditorium holds baked goods offered by the ASI Women's Club, Svea Club, and SWEA International. Svea club will also present a few crafts, rice pudding dessert, and a holiday raffle. You'll find more crafts, including Swedish clogs, woodcarving, and Lucia gowns. The Cloudberries will perform at various times throughout the day. The kaffebord (coffee table), hosted by Idun Guild, will offer sandwiches, bars and drömtårta from 10 a.m.-3 p.m., with coffee and other treats available until 4 p.m.
The Christmas Fair is free for ASI members (bring your membership card) and included with museum admission for nonmembers.

Date: 2008-11-12 01:32 pm (UTC)Probably hjortron jam -- you can get it at IKEA, Ingebretsens, or the American Swedish Institute. Have not seen it mixed with the red ones.
In the long ago, I picked and ate one hjortron. I'd never heard of them or realized the incredible height of lingonberry bushes. We wuz out picking chanterelles in the wilds o' Sweden. The first time I demonstrated that I have a bad eye for 'shrooms.
I do not thank you...
