Today is Art Fair Horror Day.

There's a vast cancerous art fair sprawled across Uptown. It's filled with suburban white women pushing perambulators and admiring the native customs, whilst fearfully clutching their purses, with a few of teh gay thrown in.

Then there's Powderhorn, the last bastion of aging hippies, who, lacking the energy of Uptown, gather close to the park's lake, hoping the stagnant water will ward off some of the hot August sun.

The rejects of the rejects cluster in Loring Park, bitter harpies trying desperately to believe they're still hip, and that they can make money with the leftovers of the left-over traffic from the other art fairs.

The whole city is filled with people from the suburbs cursed to wander endlessly for a parking space where their car won't get broken into, wandering mostly the wrong way down one-ways, with the glazed look of concentration on their faces, ignoring all the rules of driving, searching for that one magical spot where their O! Most Precious! car WILL BE SAFE.

On a brighter note, there's also the Minnesota Fringe Festival, and I've got ten free passes. Restrictions apply.

Back to the dark side, caught Batman last night. Just a wee bit dark and brooding. Just a wee bit too dark and brooding, and an hour too long. Oh, and did I mention the print sucked? The theater was freezing? I think I enjoyed Midnight Chronicles more. Less pretensions, and they didn't always talk in a really deeep voice... Oh, and Chris, next time, just take your clothes off. It'll be enough for me...

I've seen one version of what people were calling a script for Midnight, that's a pretty harsh statement about Batman.

Thanks for the heads up on avoiding Uptown!

It is what it is. Batman just goes on and on and on, darker and darker, filmed in bright shades of dark on black, careening from one plot improbability to another. There's a point when you just give up on the dawn. Or as I did once in a car full of people in a similar state, where you gradually realize it's just another dark and cloudy, cloudy day.

I detest angst-ridden plots that leave me wondering if there's any reason to live. It's a sort of pomposity that sucks any of the life out of even the most depressing film noir.

I think I'll skip Batman.
