One of the first things to do when you are in a hole is to stop digging. Take your hand off the handle of the shovel and set it down. For some reasonzm neither fans nor politicians ever seem to grasp this. Maybe if they used a shovel instead of their mouths or a keyboard, this might dawn on them.
