Smiling Through, Part 2

The outpouring of replies to the depression column takes me by surprise. But why should it? I know that the number of sufferers is vast, but may be even more so than I thought. As the number of replies ran into the hundreds I began to think that, as with cancer, nearly everyone has been touched by it, if not personally then among relatives and friends.

Like the gay “love that dared not speak its name,” depression is now shouting. More

I don't like the way he dismisses herbal treatments though. For many people they are not only more effective than the chemical pharmaceuticals, but much gentler on their bodies. Though outside of that irritation, he does bring up some interesting points.

The trouble with the herbals is the lack of testing and product contistancy. Without knowing what it is that's in them that works, one bottle to the next, even of the same brand, can alter your dosage dramaticly.

That can be downright dangerous when you're dealing with serious depression. At least that's MY problem with them.

I was depressed for 50 years.
Then I found estrogen.
