Jun. 21st, 2002 07:37 amGot my bike shorts on last night, but not sure I can give myself a ribbon, although they are blue. Never made it out the door.
Discovered that the canister filter in the basement isn't pumping water. It looks as if one part has been broken for a long time and that the impeller is going too. Can't find parts for it so far, even on the Internet. That initiated my missed bike ride. I was still sitting here as the sun went down in the west. While looking for parts, I was looking at a new canister filter, but they're just kind of expensive.
Movies in today's NY Times:
Minority Report, Sunshine State from John Sayles (with that hot Marc Blucas), which Steven Holden really liked, Lilo and Stitch, and yet again, a movie about a hustler, Mr. Smith Gets a Hustler, and even a docudrama about Jeffrey, Dahmer.

Date: 2002-06-21 02:08 pm (UTC)I went to a little pet store out here near where I work, and they had the parts. Now all I have to do is put them in and see if it fixes it.

I managed to read one of the Hugo nominees last night - Hell is the Absence of God, by Ted Chiang - it's in Starlight 3 (available for loan to qualified Hugo voters)(and to anyone else who might want to borrow it). I haven't yet read any of the other nominees in this category. I found the story somewhat disquieting.
It inspired me to collect the rest of the nominees for shorter fiction that are currently in my possession. I figure the odds of my reading the short fiction in time to make an informed vote are better than my odds of doing the same with the novels.
The review in the Strib convinced me that I might want to see Lilo and Stitch.
