Jun. 12th, 2002 09:01 amIt seems to me that failure to uphold the Constitution is a major failing in a president. Holding some poor thug in captivity, then throwing them in a brig seems to violate the core of the Constitution as I remember it. Then again, I'm not a lawyer. Announcing him guilty from the podium also violates one or two tenants of American law, and doing it because you don't have enough information to convict him even makes it worse. Impeachment suddenly starts looking like a great idea.

Date: 2002-06-14 01:56 am (UTC)You know, I'd even let them get away with the "enemy combatant" ploy if it forced them to actually declare this "war" they've got going. Take that power back out of the Executive branch and put it in the Legislative where it belongs.
