It astounds me how many people in this country seem to think the solution to problems like this is to arm everybody and to authorize them to use lethal force at their own discretion. I have to ask if carrying guns is such a good idea, why do hotels, schools, shopping malls etc. all have those "we ban guns on these premises" signs?

I try to avoid battlefields.

But for those who can't, the side without guns does most of the dying.

We have people who are trained to make snap decisions involving the use of weapons.

However, they aren't the same people who hang out in forums and blogs advocating that everyone carry guns at all times.
