Flames, Fires & Flamewars

The flamewar on a mailing list seems to have burnt itself out. (Or people just stopped shoveling coal.) I'm always amazed at the number of people who just have to add their own little shovel -- just a few more pieces of coal and then the fire will go out. If I pick the right piece and put it in the right place, then surely, the fire will go out. Everybody understands fires; everybody understands coal; but few people understand what happens when you feed a flamewar.

On the other hand, my phone decided Die Zauberflöte makes good reminder music. I'm not in disagreement, but it sounded strange while I was reading the paper to hear it warbling from my desk.
