Really? Actually good? Cause the title makes me want to kill.

The real title, or [livejournal.com profile] lsanderson's title?

It's another book I own (I think), but haven't read. I remember the author as being a pretty nice person (she was co-GoH at a Diversicon).

It's a pretty funny book, really, though not really funny in the style of Jane Austen.

That I find reassuring. I like funny. I'm sick of Jane Austen.:)

The movie...

Is a bit of comedy of manners. Conversations that a few at the table follow, while the rest float on the gloss.

Actually I'm just fed up with all the Jane Austen movies in recent memory. Nothing against either title per se.

Absolutely no reflection on the book at all.

Uhm...

The title of the book and the movie is: The Jane Austen Book Club. (The "Fucking" is silent.)

It's about a bunch of people...

Five women and one man who form a book club to read Jane Austen.

There's lots of talk about books and plots that are code for what's going on in the people's lives. There's those conversations where two people at the table know what's being said and the rest are left in the fog thinking the book is being talked about.

I enjoyed it...

It's a bit of a chick flick, and it goes a wee bit overboard here and there, but it's filmed with a lot of visual humor. The characters are fun. I miss most of the Jane Austen, but then there's Ursula K. LeGuin stuff flying around a bit too. Some of the redemptions are a bit twee, but it's a very fun ride to the end.
