Hmm

For those of you old enough to remember LPs and that still have 'em...

LP-to-MP3 Converter

The first of its kind, this belt-driven turntable plugs into your computer via USB, plays, converts, and saves your prized vinyl LPs to MP3 format for playback on an iPod, or other MP3 device, allowing you to take your favorite out-of-print music, comedy, and spoken-word recordings anywhere you go without risk. In addition to providing high-speed vinyl audio conversion to MP3, the turntable plays LPs at 3313 and 45 rpm speeds (adapter included), and its adjustable anti-skating control provides increased stereo balancing. Includes 1/8"" RCA output and cable for connection to a stereo system equipped with either a CD or AUX input. The system includes recording and cleaning software (PC/Mac) for the removal of scratches, hisses, and pops, but will operate with any software that supports USB audio input sound cards. 20 1/4" W x 3" H x 17" D. (8 3/4 lbs.)

That's what I do now, using my regular turntable and software.

WoW...

I have the tools, just don't ever seem to get around to capturing any records... now I moved the turntable upstairs so it's even less likely. I posted it because of the price and I've got a friend who has asked about it before. The USB makes to easy, and the lack of a CD burner makes it cheap. Plus, lottsa folks don't have turntables any more...

I need to have some work done on my turntable. It does its job fine, but when I listen to the LPs I've ripped, there's the sound of something being dragged on asphalt down underneath it all. (And I need to stop ripping LPs before I get it fixed, for obvious reasons.)

I am soooooo tempted!
What amazed me, is the price is reasonable.
My system is in storage right now, but I have my LPs.
This is not to say that it isn't simply a matter of using my computer as another tape deck and archiving stuff that way, but it does save space and makes for easier operation.
I'm wondering if [livejournal.com profile] cakmpls "J" has seen this?

Addendum:
The catalogue description says that it will do "high-speed" conversion to mp3 format.
I'm going to assume they mean once the computer gets the signal it digitizes it very quickly.
Otherwise I can imagine a Chipmunk version of Doris Day doing "Que Sera Sera" resounding through my house.

I sent her...

A link from the website.

...turntable plays LPs at 3313 and 45 rpm speeds...

*snort* Those from our generation might recognize that a record playing at 3,313 rpm would fly off the turn table, slice through the wall, and embed itself in the trees outside.

Which reminds me, I need a new 78 turntable too. My old one is just too wonky now. Scandalous -- I paid $15 for it in 1985, and it's already going bad on me. What's the world coming to?
