Probably why the catalpa has fallen out of favor as an urban tree, while the locust (whose leaves dry up into small frito-shaped crisps and just blow away; one need not rake them) is found everywhere.
When the catalpa blooms, we know it's really summer, and so is, I think, a highly valuable barometer.
