HORRORS!
SCARY IFP MINNESOTA SCREENWRITING CONFERENCE SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 4

The 4th Annual IFP Minnesota Screenwriting Conference will be
presented on Saturday, November 4, 2006 in partnership with
Minneapolis Community and Technical College at MCTC's Wheelock
Whitney Hall. This year's topic is horror/thriller/suspense writing
and will feature Lance Weiler, Writer/Director of the new horror film
Head Trauma*, which has received rave reviews since its world
premiere at the prestigious Los Angeles Film Festival in July. Alain
Silver, writer/director/producer and author of the books Horror Film
Reader and The Vampire Film, along with local filmmakers Jon Springer
and Ryan Schaddelee, are also scheduled for the conference, with
other guests TBA.

DATE: Saturday, November 4
PLACE: Minneapolis Community & Technical College
TIME: 9am-4:30pm
PRICE: $50 general public / $40 IFP members / $30 students & seniors
(Add $10 if you wish to have lunch)

HITCHCOCK TRIBUTE - AN EARLY "THE BIRDS" SPECIAL: RECEIVE $5 OFF IF
YOU REGISTER BY OCTOBER 25!

*Head Trauma (headtraumamovie.com) will be screened on the Friday
evening before the conference (location TBA) with free admission for
all pre-registered conference attendees. Seriously creepy and deeply
unnerving, Head Trauma explores the uneasy difference between being
psychotic and paranoid and actually having someone - or something -
out to get you. When drifter George Walker returns to his deceased
grandmother's abandoned house, he must not only face down unwelcoming
neighbors, but something far worse, something in the basement,
something all the more terrifying because it knows George's deepest
secret. Transposing much of the spooky imagery from the recent
Japanese horror explosion onto American small-town life, this is an
unsettling slice of indie horror.

Remember: just because you're paranoid doesn't mean we're not watching you.

NEW AFFORDABLE ARTIST HOUSING PROJECT
There has been a lot of hype lately about new facilities for cultural
institutions here in the Twin Cities but here's one for the
INDIVIDUAL ARTIST.

Just two blocks east of IFP, the largest affordable artist housing
projects in the country is currently under construction. Designed to
meet the needs of individual artists and cultural workers of all
stripes, CARLETON ARTISTS LOFTS involves the restoration of three
beautiful historic warehouse structures right here in the Midway area
of Saint Paul.

The community that is being developed through this project will
include 169 affordable living spaces for artists and cultural workers
and their families as well as support spaces including galleries,
work spaces and communal gathering areas.

The project is subsidized in a number of ways to make this rental
housing permanently affordable and the first of the three building
will begin to be occupied in late autumn of this year. To find out
more visit their web site. http://www.carletonartistlofts.com Or
call (651) 646-lofts

IFP MN CONSULTATIONS: A NEW MEMBERSHIP BENEFIT
IFP MN staff regularly meets with members to discuss various aspects
of their projects. Topics include script, fundraising, marketing,
screenings, production, technical advice, business start-ups and
other angles unique to each project. These meetings are free and
open to IFP MN membership only. IFP MN members call the specific
staff person they wish to meet with and set up an appointment.
Meetings usually last one hour.

IFP MN staff has found that these meetings are generally very useful
for the filmmaker or photographer. Especially in terms of steps or
directions to take a project to the next level. There are times,
however, when IFP MN staff are stymied along with the person they are
trying to assist. It is for these occasions that IFP MN has
developed a new program, "IFP MN Consultations."

Here's how it works:
A fee for service, IFP MN members can have exclusive access to a
consultant in the area that assistance is needed. IFP MN currently
has thre

Um, I know I'm a relatively new person on your Friends list but I was wondering whether you might consider putting really long posts like this of local interest behind an lj-cut tag so they don't require a lot of scrolling past?

Thanks and hope you have a good time at this event!

Cut?
