I've got the Lathe of Heaven from Netflix. Anybody up for a viewing in the Batcave? It was broadcast on PBS quite some number of years ago...

Assuming this is in fact the PBS version and not the 2002 movie, I'm up for it sometime. Should probably read the story first, if I have a copy somewhere.

By the way, have you any idea why Netflix recently started crashing IE (6.0.2800.1106) when I try to view info about a specific movie? I downloaded Firefox to just to deal with that and other inexplicable crashes, but I haven't got used to it yet and still prefer IE for most things.

No...

But then again, I've got a half-working version of the beta IE on my computer that's a large mess...

It' from 1979....Educational Broadcasting Corporation. I'm going to guess that it's not the 2002 movie...

I remember that one. If I recall, parts of it were filmed in Ft. Worth?

Right. It's the one for which Ed Emshwiller did some of the visual effects.

I think so...

I was living in Dallas at the time and I remember some sort of local connection to it. Maybe it was filmed in Dallas? Maybe there was a scene of Reunion tower?

I know Logan's Run was filmed in Ft. Worth -- there are shots of the water gardens in it.

I think you see a futuristic cityscape and that's about it, but I've not seen it since it showed a very long time ago.

I found this blurb on imdb:

Early in 1980 it was aired. Bruce Davison (recently the Senator in "X-men") played the protagonist, George Orr. And various (Dallas Ft Worth) Metroplex locations stood in for Portland in the near-future year of 2002. City Hall (later the OCP HQ in "Robocop"), Reunion Arena and the Water Gardens in FW (previously used in "Logan's Run").

City Hall is big upside down triangle shaped thing. Reunion is a big ball on top of a tower. The water gardens are a fountain in the shape of stairs -- now you can impress your friends with trivia!
