Jan. 5th, 2002 10:05 pmRan off to see Gosford Park this afternoon. WoW. See it. If you're not good at British accents, go twice. Star studded cast.
"Robert Altman, one of America's most distinctive filmmakers, journeys to England for the first time to create a unique film mosaic. It is November, 1932. Gosford Park is the magnificent country estate to which Sir William McCordle (Michael Gambon) and his wife, Lady Sylvia (Kristin Scott Thomas), gather relations and friends for a shooting party. They have invited an eclectic group including a countess, a World War I hero, a British matinee idol, and an American film producer. Part comedy of manners and part mystery, the film is finally a moving portrait of events that bridge generations, class, sex, tragic personal history -- and culminate in a murder. (Or is it two murders...?) All-star cast also includes Maggie Smith, Jeremy Northam, Emily Watson, Ryan Phillippe, Derek Jacobi, Alan Bates, Helen Mirren and Richard E. Grant." from landmarktheatres.com
Went to see a revival The Night of the Hunter (1955) at Oak Street Cinema tonight. Interesting, but not as good.
