I don't even know where I would buy a leg of lamb in My Fair
City...Whole Foods, maybe. I think I'm doing cornish game hens for xmas....trite, yes, but tasty.

Most butcher shops will have them, and a Greek grocery will for sure. A good grocery store meat department will order one for you, but it'll cost an arm and a leg.

A Greek grocery? Oh, if only! Think King of the Hill, that's what my town is like :).

Texans don't eat much lamb or goat, except for the immigrant communities. I think I was well into my 20s before I ever tasted lamb.

I love that last photo so much that after I saw it yesterday, I went looking on eBay for some of the objects in it to use a painting models. I love the chatter on the plate, and the look of the fruit in the pedestal bowl. And it's all about the lighting. I went to NYT to get the full-scale photo.

I grew up in the flatlands o' Dakota (North, not that there's much difference other than a few degrees between 'em). Keeping a grocery store in the closest small town was difficult in itself. The only fresh veggie I can remember during the winter is Iceberg lettuce and an occasional green pepper. (Not counting root veggies: taters, onions, and carrots.) WoW, it's apparently up to 750,000 people in the whole state!
