Okay, so flying is incredibly safe, but what’s the safest airline? Based on accident records, operational history, and international safety audits, AirlineRatings.com said Qantas leads the pack; the Aussie flag carrier is famous for its fatality-free history as a jet airline. Rounding out the rest of the top 10, in alphabetical order:

Good to know. Though I don't think I'll ever use Aer Lingus again anyway, they found a variety of ways to annoy me, like refusing to award partnership miles.

But the FAA says that they won't rank airlines like this because flying is so safe that crashes are a matter of the statistics of small numbers. In other words, all first world carriers have statistically indistinguishable safety records.

If I'm going down, I'd much rather go down with Singapore airlines than United. It's like the difference between heaven and hell.
